OpenAthens Ideas Portal

We're always looking for ways to improve our products, and we'd love your input to help us make that happen. Your suggestions will guide us in deciding where we should focus our future research and development.

Just sign in with your email to share your thoughts or vote for ideas you like—it'll help them get noticed!

Here’s how the portal is organised:

  • Librarians (Identity Providers): Share ideas that help organisations that manage user identities and provide access to online content and services. This includes improving the experience for students and researchers.

  • Publishers (Service Providers): Share ideas for organisations that offer content and services.

Ability to apply IP authentication to OpenAthens admin login in addition to username/password

Currently, login to the OpenAthens admin portal is available via username and password only. The customer would like the option to add IP authentication as an additional security measure. This way, even if the username and password are compromised, access to the admin portal can still be blocked from unknown IP addresses.

Is this currently impacting your ability to use OpenAthens effectively? No

Perhaps you are new to OpenAthens. This was once the case; we could access the Athens admin console while on site with IP validation. This capability was removed a few years ago.

The need to repeatedly log into the admin area, and wait for an access code, is incredibly frustrating. We have users waiting at help desks while staff sit waiting for an access code to arrive.
