IPv6 support for OpenAthens

We were notified by a few vendors that their platform now relies on IPv6 for access while OpenAthens currently supports IPv4 only and have no plans to implement it at this time. This creates access failures as more vendors and networks transition to IPv6. Adding IPv6 support would prevent these issues and future‑proof the service. I’m requesting that OpenAthens implement IPv6 recognition for authentication workflows

Is this currently impacting your ability to use OpenAthens effectively? Yes

Thank you for raising this idea. Just so we're clear - this is in relation to the OpenAthens managed proxy service?

It would also help us to know which vendors in particular you are facing this challenge with, if you are comfortable to share that information.

The vendors that have moved to IPv6 support include the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Pidgeon Digital. And yes, both are already configured in OpenAthens with proxy access.
