OpenAthens Ideas Portal

We're always looking for ways to improve our products, and we'd love your input to help us make that happen. Your suggestions will guide us in deciding where we should focus our future research and development.

Just sign in with your email to share your thoughts or vote for ideas you like—it'll help them get noticed!

Here’s how the portal is organised:

  • Librarians (Identity Providers): Share ideas that help organisations that manage user identities and provide access to online content and services. This includes improving the experience for students and researchers.

  • Publishers (Service Providers): Share ideas for organisations that offer content and services.

Complete revamp of "Compatible Resources" Page and Info: Include comprehensive vendor list and detailed instructions on how all supported vendors are to be set up.

The comprehensive list should live inside of OpenAthens admin, but it should also be publicly available, replacing the unclear, low information entries now seen in the compatible providers list. The listing/database should contain information incl...

Show which username triggered the "insufficient attributes" authentication error

We occasionally see "Authentication failed - insufficient attributes | Expected unique user id attribute not found" errors in OpenAthens Admin under Auditing. Currently, these error messages do not show which username experienced the problem. This...

Increase resource granularity within reporting data

Need better granularity of resource access data to help us determine subscription renewals.

'Read-only' administrator access for reporting.

'Read-only' view of the OpenAthens reports. To be in the form of a new administrator 'role'. There are often stakeholders at organisations who need/want access to the reports, but who should not have access to the rest of the admin dashboard.

Timestamps reflecting local time zone

Report for who created accounts especially self-registrations

Our library recently implemented self-registration. We would enjoy being able to easily and accurately report from within OpenAthens how many accounts were created by Self-Registration. It would also be useful to know how many accounts were create...

Expand upon reports API

The API does not really do much, I would like to be able to automatically import the data we are getting from it to another source since we have many forms of tracking user data. However, I cannot because the reports API only handles one type. I w...

To implement a third-level breakdown in reporting as the current OpenAthens reports only offer a two-level resource breakdown, which limits the depth of analysis.

We require a consolidated report that includes Resource Name, Username, PG Code, and Usage Count, based on unique users, for analysis. Currently, there is no overlap between the reports that would allow for an XLOOKUP to merge PG Code or Username.

Download graphs as PDFs

It would be helpful if librarians could download graphs in the reporting module as PDFs, as this would save time when sharing usage reports with management during the subscription renewal period.

Fulltext Usage

Currently, OpenAthens provides the session/login counts for publishers/patrons. We cannot identify their actual FT usage of resources accessed via OA. This feature would be a great value addition for all OA users and administrators.
